As I travel around the country speaking with storeowners one of the major concerns expressed to me is that if they train their jewelers they will take the knowledge they received at the store’s expense and leave and go elsewhere to perform their work.

However, as I speak with bench jewelers that have left a store or are considering leaving, the number one reason for leaving is that they feel stymied in their career and there is no room for growth where they are.

The BEST way to keep good Bench Jewelers is to provide them the education they need to grow in their career and as an added plus the store benefits from their increased knowledge and skills, as you can then better serve your existing clients and reach additional customers.

Your bench jeweler cannot do what you want done, or more importantly what your customer wants done, If They Do Not Know How To Do It!  Studies have shown that 80% of what employees need to know to get their jobs done is learned on the job.  Unless you provide continuing educational opportunities to your bench jeweler they will never be able to improve the services they offer you and your clients.
